Understanding the basics of intellectual property (IP) is essential for small business owners in order to help avoid loss of rights, loss of ownership and liability to others. In this workshop Beth Filip and Jennifer Morris of Grossman, Tucker, Perreault & Pfleger, PLLC will provide a basic discussion of IP for the small business owner. Filip and Morris will review the various forms of IP protection available including trademarks, copyrights and patents. In addition they will also cover topics including; federal vs. common law trademark rights, the importance of policing your brand, why work for hire agreements are important, filing for patent protection and the statutory requirement for obtaining a patent.
The event will be held in the abi Innovation Hub conference room on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from noon to 2pm. This workshop is free and open to the public, but we do ask that you register with Jacob Bodoh at jacob@abihub.org or by calling (603) 629-9511. Lunch will be provided.
