NHBR Network/NHBR's online b-to-b network

Wondering how employers in this network are dealing with their rising health care costs? NH has a serious problem with their costs compared to other states.

Are employers:

-Passing costs to employees?
-Absorbing costs?
-Splitting costs?
-Switching to higher deductibles?
-Has no idea what their options are?

Due to sharp increases in our HMO plan last year, we switched to an HSA plan with 5K (individual) and 10K (couple) deductables. It actually worked well and we became much more aware of health care costs as a result and that's good. The bad news is that the cost jumped 47% this fall. We reviewed our options and reluctantly concluded that this was still the best option out there for us. So far, I have not passed the increase on to my employees but may be forced to given the still dormant state of construction. No matter how you calculate it, it raises the cost of doing business.

I still don't understand why health insurance is not an individual responsibility like homeowners or car insurance. Why are businesses expected to provide it as a "benefit" to the employee? It certainly makes it harder for employees to switch jobs if they have pre-existing conditions or to get individual insurance if they want to take time off or start their own business.
