I just posted the 12th Annual Granite State HR Conference on the calendar in here. Okay, so my views are somewhat biased as I'm the chair of the marketing and information mgmt committee for this event, which is put on by an all volunteer board.
But please, here me out.
6 years ago I made the transition from marketing and sales professional to HR/Recruitment Consultant, which lead to my becoming a relatively active speaker and trainer in the world of employment branding, social media for HR, and strategic staffing in NH and across New England and NY.
I tell you this because when I first reached into this world I had very little appreciation or understanding of the potential value of a well-informed, supported, and integrated HR partner within an organization. In the past 6 years, as I've integrated myself into this world, I have been exposed speakers, philosophies, and best practices that I was able to incorporate into my work place.
Through workshops and presentations at local chapters, I've become a better manager, a better leader, and a better steward for my organization. Here's what I think I know: Every manager from every company can benefit from attending the workshops at this annual event, and by actively engaging HR partners in organizational decisions and supporting those partners through ongoing development. I challenge you to look at this list of presentations, and tell me that there's nothing for you to learn (with a straight face). HR isn't just about payroll and benefits- it's about developing productive employees that help your company grow.
Schedule SO, back to my main question, why WOULDN'T a manager attend this event? What is it that doesn't seem appealing? Why do you think it's not worth the time? In an effort to help us grow this event, I'd truly appreciate your thoughts.
