Too Much Cash?

Nothing will get the adrenaline of a thief rushing faster than the sightof bundles of cash that they think might easily be theirs. With that in mind, why do business owners and managers persist in counting out their cash registerreceipts in view of whoever might be passing by? That's just asking fortrouble.Cash should only be counted in the privacy of an office. If your establishmentdoes not have an office, then the cash should be counted in the back room wherethere are no observers. Cash should…See More

Door closers - often overlooked

Door closers must be an integral part of the overall health and safety considerations of your business. Door closers on entrance doors preventinjuries to clients and employees alike by controlling the closing of the dooron even the windiest of days. Closers on kitchen or service doors help controlthe intrusion of insects, vermin, and even would-be crooks. Door closers onrestroom doors provide privacy and prevent the migration of odors and germs toother areas of the premises. Additionally, door…See More

Is your building secure?

Most building owners/store managers issue keys to their employees to either open or close the business, and think that the premises is secure.  But if those keys can be duplicated at thenearby hardware store, then a false sense of security exists.             There are many situations where security can be compromised: let’s look at a few.             “Joe” is given a key to lock up at night.  He’s a little forgetful, sometimes misplaces the key, and figures if he had another copy,…See More

I always wondered what would happen if, instead of multi-billion dollar bailouts for banks, the government would send out a check for $6,000 to every taxpayer? The $600 a few years ago really didn't do much, and am wondering if a larger dollar…

Interesting comments, Vincent. We've found that "business development" is often considered to be part of the selling process; it is commonly defined as a multi-step process, which begins with identifying targets - either from the…

Why is "Business Development" about loans?

Most Business Development seminars or meetings are about small business loans. I don't really need a loan, I need customers. Where can I go to obtain names and addresses of local and not so local businesses to market? Phone book? Their physical address may not be their mailing address. Tax rolls? They list the owner of the building, not the business renting the storefront.I'd like to see some "Business Development" seminars that actually develop and encourage business, not provide loans.See More

A small group of Hampstead business leaders are trying to figure out how to keep local business local, instead of going to Plaistow, Salem, or Haverhill. It's tough when the local town gov't does not like signage to help identify those…
