I came across this while doing my daily media detective work.
Coca-Cola has teamed up with World Wildlife Fund to build awareness and raise funds for polar bears. “The polar bear spends its life on the Arctic sea ice where it hunts, lives and breeds. Unfortunately, the sea ice is melting at an unprecedented rate, and the loss of habitat is now the polar bear’s greatest threat.” The initiative is outstanding (and the change of their iconic red cans to white is pretty cool, too!) You can even donate via SMS.
Coca-Cola has outlined some easy steps you can take to do your part for the environment. You may not realize it, but every little change makes a difference – even all the way to the arctic.
1. Donate now to support the polar bear and its Arctic home.
2. Replace standard light bulbs with compact flourescent bulbs (CFLs).
3. Reduce carbon emissions by carpooling, bike riding or walking.
4. Plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide and provide natural cooling by …..shading your home from the sun.
5. Collect rain to water your plants.
6. Make sure your dishwasher is full before you run it.
7. Take shorter showers.
Their goal to create a safe haven is inspiring and a reminder to stop sweating the small stuff. There are bigger issues in our world and these polar bears are a great reminder. You can find more information here. Drink Coke today, and do good forever.
