Seems like no one wants you to know where they are, yet they can’t help telling everyone! We have moved past “What are you doing?” and have graduated to “where are you?” If you’re a true social media maven or marketing tribe leader (and you know who you are) you’re not afraid of sharing. Sharing is what social networks are all about. And like any social network, you can control who and what you’re sharing – but what’s fun about that?
The badges alone are great. I was never a Brownie growing up and this is my chance! Kidding. But really – Foursquare delivers both personal and professional growth. Whether you’re in to win it or building your brand, it’s a platform that should not be overlooked. The leverage associated with this location-based platform engages & preserves customers in real time and space.
There are over 10 million Foursquare users worldwide, over 3 million check-ins per day and over 500,000 businesses. Enough said.
Listening is the number one component to social media or at least it should be. What do you think happens when Sally checks in at the Starbucks on Main Street and says “Great pumpkin lattes but slow service,”? Her check-in is automatically sent to her Facebook, Twitter and her Foursquare friend. When her friend Bill sees this, he will subconsciously remember this and next time he wants a coffee from Starbucks he knows not to go to the one on Main Street, especially if he’s in a hurry. I have seen tips like Sally’s reach management at places like Starbucks. If Starbucks is smart, they will respond to Sally to keep her as a customer. Gift card anyone? People are receiving information faster than ever and in real time. It’s instant, multi-directional and the shelf life is permanent. What legacy are you building online?
Businesses, of all areas, can benefit from Foursquare. Customers, clients and friends love to be engaged every second. Even if your business doesn’t sell things directly like food or clothing – be creative & think outside the box. If you’re a transportation company, let the mayor of your location honk the horn! A lot of businesses offer discounts, prizes and free food. Why wouldn’t you participate? You have nothing to lose unless you don’t. Dunkin’ Donuts launched their newest campaign centered on Foursquare. Check-in at participating locations & you could be named President of Dunkin’ Nation. Plus, they’re giving away daily prizes along the way. Who doesn’t want prizes?!
If you’re not catching & riding the social media wave then you’ll quickly get capsized. Even the President of the United States joined in on the Foursquare fun.
