I have a confession. I was sitting at my desk grinding through numerous projects that needed to be done and my cell phone rang. I looked at the number and saw it was a call from my house. My girls (ages 6 and 8) were home with the babysitter at this point and I figured they were calling to ask to go to Whirlygigs (toy store in Exeter) or some other adventure that required my permission. I hesitated. “Maybe I’ll just let them leave a message. I can check the message and if it is important I can call back.” Yup, I hesitated when I saw it was a call from my kids. Have I gotten that busy? Are we all getting that busy?
I have noticed that lately when people ask me how things are going at the WBC my usual response is, “We’re really busy.” If I want to change it up a bit or sound positive I respond with, “Good, but really busy.” I am getting sick of hearing myself utter those words. Not that busy isn’t a good thing. I like busy. Ask anyone who knows me or works with me and you will learn that I like to have a lot in the hopper. It just seems lately that we are overly busy and to the point that conversations are rushed and brief, emails are even briefer and I hesitated before answering a call from my children. Yes, I did pick up and yes they did want to go to Whirlygigs. I am just hoping that we are not just busy but that all of our activity is purposeful. Is our energy and sacrifice taking us in the right direction and leading us to achieving our goals?
How busy are you these days? Is your personal whirlwind of activities leading you to your goals? I was given some great advice to help keep the WBC on track and focused on our mission. Write down your goals and major responsibilities. Now sit down and record how you are spending your time. Are you busy working towards your goals or just busy?
