The push for green businesses is on, and a new business incubator is helping fledging companies with novel sustainable concepts grow. Michael McCord takes us on a tour of the Seacoast Sustainable Energy Technology Incubator inside Brayton Energy in Hampton. Jim Kesseli, founder and president, has a unique turbine engine that may revolutionize the trucking industry – and is supporting other green companies in the incubator with Brayton’s resources at the same time.

Pay-for-performance may be coming to New Hampshire’s health-care industry. Under a five-year pilot program – called an “accountable care organization," or ACO – health-care providers will be compensated based on their quality of care instead of the current fee-for-service model. As Cindy Kibbe reports, this program is not without some controversy. Many questions remain, including exactly how providers participating in the ACO will be paid.

Wiggin & Nourie attorney and immigration law expert Mona T. Movafaghi says there are still plenty of H-1B visas available for companies seeking foreign workers with specialized knowledge and experience, however, applying for the visas can have pitfalls employers need to be aware of.

A new law signed by Gov. John Lynch retroactively allows investors to engage in real estate exchanges permitted by federal law – called 1031 exchanges - without paying capital gains taxes. Bob Sanders writes that about 30 investors were spared from owing $5 million in back taxes – but a 1031 exchange is still a complicated matter that must be thoughtfully and carefully pursued.

And the state’s third annual Greenerpalooza is coming up Aug. 12 to the Meadowbrook U.S. Cellular Pavilion in Gilford. Grammy Award-winning musician Sheryl Crow, joined by 2009 BMI Pop Award Songwriter of the year Colbie Caillat, will headline this year’s concert, that will also feature an eco-village of green businesses.
