Fall out from the recession in New Hampshire is explored from two different angles in the headlines of NHBR's upcoming May 7 issue.
What exactly happened at the Rochester firm BrandPartners? The company, which makes retail environments largely for the financial industry, recently closed its doors without much explanation, leaving the Lilac City without one of its major employers. NHBR reporter Bob Sanders will shed some light on the story.
Community banks in the Granite State say they’ve got money to lend, yet business owners are still saying they can’t get loans. Cindy Kibbe takes a closer look at what is happening in New Hampshire’s financial industry, how the near-collapse of the national economy didn’t impact some local banks like in other states and what businesspeople looking to grow their companies can to do during this recession to obtain a loan.
Inside your May 7 print issue of NHBR you’ll find a section on the upcoming New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility’s seventh annual conference, “Social Responsibility: Competitive Advantage to Competitive Imperative,” May 24 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord.
The conference will be led by keynote speaker Andrea Moffat, senior director of corporate programs at sustainability think tank Ceres, who will discuss creating a sustainable global economy. Break-out sessions and the announcement of the 2010 recipient of the Cornerstone Award honoring a company or individual that exemplifies the principles of corporate social responsibility as well as the “Green Drinks” networking post-event will wrap up the day.
Columnist Paul Boynton, president and chief executive of Moore Center Services in Manchester, who is also a personal coach, continues his discussion on “Begin with Yes,” using positive principles to guide employee motivation.
Career coach Bill Ryan will provide tips on how to seek and land a job for those who are overqualified for the position they’re interested in.
And finally the Women’s Business Center, an agency of the Small Business Administration, is celebrating its 15th anniversary of supporting women in business at a May 19 event at the New England Center at the University of New Hampshire. Guest speakers, break-out sessions, silent auction and great food and music are all part of the not-to-miss event.
You’ll find all this and more in the May 7 edition of NHBR, in print and online at nhbr.com.
